Solid woods we work with

Fourteen species we keep in the workshop and know on the machine: how they cut, how they move and which finish suits them. If your project calls for another, we source it.

From lightest to darkest

The tone of each swatch is approximate, with matte varnish; for your project we look at it on a physical sample, with the finish it will carry.

Poplar

Yellow poplar · Liriodendron tulipifera · United States

Light and uniform, with a slight greenish tint. Stable and easy to work; we use it for pieces that will be lacquered or painted.

Maple

Hard maple · Acer saccharum · United States and Canada

Very light, fine-grained and close-pored. Hard and impact-resistant: countertops, light kitchens and contemporary furniture.

Beech

Fagus sylvatica · Europe

Pale pink, close-grained and very even. Excellent for bending and turning: chairs, stairs and precision furniture.

Marupá

Simarouba amara · Amazon

Pale yellow, light and straight-grained. Easy to work and lacquer: mouldings, interiors and painted furniture.

American oak

Quercus rubra / Quercus alba · United States

Pronounced grain and great strength. Floors, stairs, kitchens and hard-wearing furniture; takes stain very well.

Red grandis

Eucalyptus grandis · certified plantation · Uruguay

Pinkish red and very even, with a discreet grain. Doors, windows and covered exterior joinery.

Spanish cedar

Cedrela odorata · Central and South America

Reddish, aromatic and very stable. The classic wood for doors and closets; resists moisture and insects.

Mexican cedar

Mexican red cedar · Mexico

More figured and warmer than imported cedar. Entry doors, frames and furniture with a traditional character.

Banack

Virola spp. · Central America

Soft reddish brown and straight-grained. Light and uniform: interiors, mouldings and furniture to be stained.

Peruvian oak

Amazonian oak · Peru

Golden to light brown, with a broad grain. Good stability for doors, windows and furniture.

Tornillo

Cedrelinga cateniformis · Peru

Pinkish brown, light and very stable in changing climates. Doors, windows and large-format furniture.

Tzalam

Lysiloma latisiliquum · Yucatán, Mexico

Brown with dark streaks and high density. Our wood for doors, veneers and outdoor furniture.

American walnut

Juglans nigra · United States

Deep brown with purplish highlights and an elegant grain. Signature furniture, bookcases and high-value veneers.

Peruvian walnut

Juglans neotropica · Peru

Dark chocolate, dense and fine-grained. Luxury pieces: doors, desks and details meant to shine.

We also work with natural veneers and woods sourced to order. Send us the specification and we'll tell you availability, lead times and whether an alternative with the same character makes sense.
